The nonprofit said 330 volunteers had the task ofspending 16,500 hours in the research and discussion process to determine what organizations should receive the fundingy in an attempt to impact the most lives in the counties of Rockwall, Dallas and southern Denton The team tasked with the initiative determiner that the United Way would distribute the funds among 91 communitt organizations that govern about 210 philanthropic programs. Agencies devotex to education willreceive $10. million in funding while $7.1 million will be investeds in agencies that are devoted to helpingh families in areas such as building and retaininghpersonal income.
Another $10 million will be invested in health-related programs. United Way said $1.6 million will go to disasterd preparedness, $6.3 will go to other UW programzand $9.2 million will be distributed to other philanthropix programs based on individual donor designations. Despite the generoux allotment of funding tovarious agencies, the Unitedr Way of Metropolitan Dallas says it has been impactedd by the recessionary conditions. The agency raisecd $58.4 million during its 2008-2000 campaign season, but 12 percent of its pledge s have been deemed uncollectable because of the effectsw ofthe economy. As a result, investmenf funds are down by 3.9 percent.
