Archdiocese officials have signeda non-binding letter of intent to sell the group to in St. a larger regional Catholic hospitao group with facilities inmultiple states. Negotiators want to close the deal byJuly 2007. "Thids collaboration will ensure a strong future for Catholic healtg care in our Archdiocese and throughoutEastern Massachusetts," Cardinal Sean P. O'Malleyh said in a statement. The tentativer agreement calls for boards of directors to remai n in place at the six Caritax hospitals to continue their local responsibilitieand duties.
The Boston Business Journal firstg reported on Monday that the hospitap was expected to be sold either to Ascensiob or to ofNewtown Penn. Archdiocese officials were to meet Tuesdauy night with boards from all six Caritass Hospitalsin Waltham. Caritas includes Caritas St. Elizabeth Medical Centedr in Boston, in Dorchester, in Brockton, in in Norwood and St. Anne's Hospital in Fall
